The MXR Custom Badass Modified OD is a flexible, amp-friendly overdrive that covers everything from a low-gain push to a tight, aggressive mid-forward drive. This release includes 9 calibrated NAM A2 captures across its core boost and EQ configurations, giving you practical variations for dialing in the right amount of bite, body, and output into your virtual rig.

Designed to sit naturally in front of clean, edge-of-breakup, and high-gain amp models, these captures retain the pedal’s responsive pick attack, focused low end, and useful tonal-shaping range.

Nine calibrated models captured in distinct boost modes, built to provide usable gain-staging options:

Built for Real Gain Staging

Use these models like you would use the actual pedal:

• Place them before your amp model to push the input, tighten low end, and add harmonic density
• Experiment with input and output levels in NAM to match the response of your specific virtual amp chain

Each model was calibrated and captured as part of a consistent Mad Hatter Amp Lab workflow, with the goal of delivering dependable level behavior and musical response across the complete set.

Notes

These are pedal-only DI captures. Stack them in front of any amp NAM model in your chain - they pair especially well with my Laney GH100L and Mesa Dual Rectifier packs, both of which take boost pedals exceptionally well.

Because these captures preserve the natural behavior of the real pedal, different Gain/Level settings are intentionally recorded at their genuine relative levels. Please use your DAW or NAM's output controls to match loudness between presets to taste while keeping the underlying dynamics intact.

As with any analog overdrive, component tolerances, power supply conditions, pickups, and the amp or model following the pedal all affect the final result. The included models are intended as a versatile collection of real-world pedal settings - not a replacement for careful gain staging in your own rig.
