Think of it as a JCM800 with an added switchable tube gain stage bolted on top. Where a JCM800 tops out around a cranked, moderately saturated crunch\/overdrive, the GH100L keeps going. Engaging the Drive switch pushes it well into higher-gain territory that the 800 simply can't reach stock. The trade off is that the Laney is slightly less bright than the JCM800, with a touch more compression and a slightly darker, grittier mid-range response. The Laney feels a bit more \"modern\" and controlled. I call this one \u003cstrong\u003eLinda\u003c\/strong\u003e in honor of the lady that assembled her back in October of 1994.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis amp takes boost pedals exceptionally well, and the NAM captures behave identically. Stacking a boost in front tightens the low end and pushes the front of the amp harder without losing clarity, even at the high-gain Drive switch setting. My go-to is a Boss SD-1, and since the captures respond the same way real amps do, you can boost with either a real pedal or a NAM capture of one in front of these models.
